Random acts of kindness (don’t groan)

Yeah, yeah…it’s trite and overused. And sappy.

I’m pretty active on a forum at the moment. Today, in honor of Valentine’s Day, their PM function allows you to send a gif of a vintage V-Day card to other folks on the forum with just one click. Because I’m like this, I sent V-Day cards to, well, pretty much everyone I’ve had contact with for the last year, even the random chick I was chatting with last night. (They have a chat feature, I camp in the chat room and talk to random people. Yes. I am that person.)

Then random chick replied to me that one of her children had died on V-Day like over a decade ago and my card had brightened her day a bit.

This sounds like a “Reader’s Digest” story. Ok, back to the reader torture, I suppose.

Snow.

I live in North Carolina.

We are on day 3 of snow.

It’s 14 inches deep in my back yard. Still coming down.

There’s more snow here than there is in Sochi, if what I see on the wall-to-wall Olympics coverage is true.

I’m not a snow person. Young hound and I agree on this point. It’s not fit weather to be in. Old hound and I took a wander down the street last night because, well, snow in the south. Then we came back, and even she, old hound who’s not bothered by streams or torrential rain, even she agreed that indoors is better.

Next Monday, it’s supposed to be back in the 60s, just like it was last Sunday. Crazy weather.

At least we’re not being washed away, like those folks in England.

So I’m pissing people off

I guess it makes me sad. I have a vision how this will play out, but I’m getting cold feet. I’m tired of trying to justify everything in public forums.

I feel like I should stop posting, until it’s completely written, then post in rapid fire.

Which I could do on AO3…. I’m considering that.

On the other hand, it’s my story.

Certainly, when I do my own original serial, it will be written in advance and published in chunks.

I’ll be the first to admit e plot and pacing need help. What confuses me really — is how people will say they think the characters are IC, but they don’t like the characters. Um. Huh? Ok, so HG isn’t suffering undue guilt — she’s doing something she can’t talk about without blowing other people’s cover, not just hers. She’s curious about what she’s experiencing, but knows it’s not appreciated. Why do people go to sex workers when they’re in relationships?

I don’t know. I do know that these are themes I want to explore elsewhere, with my own characters, which is prolly my primary mistake.

I had dinner with a friend the other night. We’ll call her A, for amazing, because she totally is. For starters, she loves to travel. She’s been to China, Nepal, Tibet, Africa — I mean, I don’t think there’s a single place she hasn’t been. It’s astounding to listen to her stories.

She has a thing for yaks. Not sure why, but I think it has something to to with how versatile yaks are. Yak wool for clothing and tents, yak milk for butter (Yak Butter Sandwich — anyone remember that old fan fic site?), yak meat — I’m sure I haven’t touched the usefulness of yaks.

But I digress.
